SMS Deliverability: A New Opt-In Confirmation Message
US mobile carriers and the CTIA require that every member who consents to text messaging receive an immediate confirmation stating who's texting them, that message frequency varies, that message and data rates may apply, and how to get help or stop. Starting with this update, members who opt in to text messages automatically receive that confirmation before any other message reaches their phone. It's a short, required text, but it does a job essential for compliance: this confirmation is a condition of our provider's A2P 10DLC campaign approval; without it, carriers can filter or block our SMS traffic entirely.
What's Changing
1. A One-Time Confirmation Message
The moment a member opts in, they receive: "Avidon: You are subscribed to Coach Messages. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel." It covers everything carriers require: sender identity, message frequency, rate disclosure, and how to get help or opt out.
2. Sent Once, Automatically
The confirmation fires the moment a member's SMS status flips from not-enabled to enabled, and only then. Re-saving preferences with SMS already on doesn't trigger a second send, even if the request gets redelivered through the queue.
3. Batch Opt-Ins Wait for Quiet Hours; Member-Initiated Ones Send Right Away
A member who opts themselves in gets the confirmation immediately, even at 10pm local time. A member added through an eligibility import gets it inside their own quiet-hours window; a batch import processed at 2am doesn't text anyone at 2am, it waits until quiet hours have passed.
4. Confirmations Stay Out of Coach Threads
The message doesn't appear in coach message threads in the admin portal, including when it's sent through the bulk import path.
Why It Matters
Keeps SMS deliverable—Carriers require this confirmation before they'll deliver a business's texts at all; sending it automatically protects every SMS message, reminder, and nudge behind it.
Built-in compliance—Every opt-in automatically triggers the required message, so nothing depends on someone remembering to send it by hand.
Zero setup on your end—This is a platform-level change with nothing for admins to configure or announce.
Respects the member's day—Confirmations sent through bulk imports land inside each member's own quiet hours, so nobody gets texted at 2am just because a batch process ran then.
Clean coach threads—The confirmation doesn't appear in coach message history, so it won't clutter the conversations coaches and admins actually review.
A single required text now stands between your members and a reliable SMS channel; this update makes sure it always goes out.
